The Castle Werfen towers above the Salzach Valley approximately 40km south of the city of Salzburg.
The fortification is a "sister" of Hohensalzburg Fortress, and dates back to the 11th century.
In 1938 the castle became the possession of the Salzburg district and was used as a training centre by the Austrian State Police until 1987.
Today the castle is a popular tourist attraction and used as an "Adventure Castle" featuring a variety of events, including an amazing bird of prey show.
