The production of salt nearby began about 1300 years ago, when the brine springs were given to the Salzburg Bishop Rupert, the Patron Saint of salt miners, by the Bavarian Duke Theodor.
The mines we visit in Berchtesgaden were first opened in 1517.
During the tour, the salt mine guide will accompany you on a train ride into the mountain, before explaining all the methods of salt mining.
You also have the chance to use the old miners' slides and journey over the underground salt lake in a boat.
