6. Lake Wolfgang (Wolfgangsee)

Lake Wolfgang in the Lake District is named after Saint Wolfgang of Regensburg, who settled here in the 10th century and built a church near the town St. Wolfgang. The lake stretches around 10km from the northwest to the southeast.

At St. Wolfgang you have the opportunity to visit the Gothic winged altar of Michael Pacher, which is one of his most famous works. Commissioned in 1471 and completed in 1481, the altar consists of two sets of wings that can be closed accross the inner corpus.

At St. Wolfgang you can find the Schafbergbahn, a cog railway bringing you up to 1782m, where you will have a breathtaking view over the mountains and lakes.

Our guests will enjoy a boat cruise along the lake from May 1st till October 26th.
